WHAT IS A VARNISHED SOLID PARQUET – FACTORY VITRIFIED?
A varnished solid oak parquet brings to the parquet a touch of modernity with an enhancement of the wood. The varnish can be brushed, that is to say that we will brush the softest part of the wood in order to give relief to the parquet and reinforce the hardness of the wood. PREMIBEL varnished parquet floors are generally factory pre-varnished in 6 coats. There are glossy, satin or matt floors. Choose the finish you want according to your taste and the feeling you are looking for to the touch. The words “varnished” and “vitrified” mean the same thing. Know that for professionals, the word “varnished” is intended for furniture while the word “vitrified” only concerns parquet.
MAINTENANCE OF A VARNISHED SOLID PARQUET
Dust the floor with a broom or vacuum cleaner. To disinfect or remove small stains, clean the surface concerned with a special varnished parquet maintenance product (a local spray or a capful of liquid soap in a bucket of water). Use microfiber cloths, a damp, not wet mop, or a very well-wrung wet mop. In order to limit fouling and to prevent the appearance of micro-scratches, it is advisable to use a metallizer with a shiny, satin or matte appearance, according to your convenience. This maintenance helps prevent premature wear of the vitrifier. In case of more wear or dirt, use a varnish restorer.
When the parquet is older and the varnish has suffered more significant degradation, the metallizer and the renovator are no longer enough.
WHAT IS A FACTORY-OILED SOLID PARQUET
An oiled solid oak floor gives the floor a much more authentic and matt look. This finish will keep a “wood look” texture. This style of parquet will suit people who like the naturalness of wood. There are two types of oil:
– Oil-wax / Surface oil
– Oil / Oil impregnation
The oil-wax deposits a very thin film on the surface of the wood. It can be tinted or not. Oil-wax behaves like oil, but it is more opacifying.
The impregnating oil preserves more the grain and the natural aspect of the parquet. It permeates the surface of the wood, to a tiny thickness. It leaves the wood with its natural feel and appearance, if it is not stained.
Once the factory pre-oiled parquet has been installed (pre-oiled with surface oil or impregnating oil), we STRONGLY recommend that you add a coat of ShemenWood colorless wax-oil. ® over the entire surface, using a dry cloth. Thanks to this additional protection, the wood is more resistant to wear and retains its color and its tightness longer. In addition to an oiled or varnished finish, there are ceruse finishes and brushed finishes.
DAILY MAINTENANCE
Vacuum, broom or a well-wrung mop to remove dust and small stains. Use only ShemenWood® cleaning soap. These products also have the effect of reinforcing the protection of the parquet, nourishing it and preventing the next oiling.
SPECIFIC MAINTENANCE
The parquet regenerates with each application of oil. In the event of minor stains or scratches, clean the surface with a special professional oiled parquet soap; then apply oil locally.
If the scratch is too deep, or the stain too impregnated, sand and re-oil locally if it is an impregnating oil. Sand and re-oil the entire piece if it is surface oil.
ANNUAL MAINTENANCE
Clean the parquet with a special oiled or oiled-waxed parquet soap.
To remove dirt, revive and protect your parquet, apply a new coat of oil to the entire surface using a dry cloth or cotton wick.
We recommend applying a coat of ShemenWood® colorless oil-wax last, in order to better preserve the parquet. This on an oiled or oiled-waxed parquet floor.
